Using the CAPSNet Database for Research

The CAPSNet database is available for researchers who are either CAPSNet members or are sponsored by CAPSNet members. Please review the
CAPSNet Data Access Policy.

In order to make a project request, complete the
CAPSNet Data Request Form. Use the CAPSNet Data Abstractors Manual Nov 2014 Version for information on the data variables collected from 2012 forward. Use the April 2007 Version for information on the data variables collected between 2005-2011. The data variables list can be used to select which variables you would like to request. Submit the completed data request form to the CAPSNet Coordinator at CAPSNet@cw.bc.ca.

The CAPSNet Steering Committee will review the request. Notification of approval will be sent to applicants via email, and generally takes 2-4 weeks. If there are outstanding issues that need to be addressed prior to data analysis, a detailed letter will be sent to applicants for their response.

Once the request has been approved by the Steering Committee, the researchers will be matched with a data analyst from the Maternal-Infant Care Research Centre (MiCare) at Mt Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. As raw data cannot be released to researchers, the analyst at MiCare will perform all analysis in consultation with the researchers. The analyses take an average of 4-6 weeks to complete. However, depending on the complexity of the request and the number of ongoing projects at MiCare, the analysis may take longer than 6 weeks.

If you have any questions, please contact the
CAPSNet Coordinator.
